On Thursday, August 25, 2022, Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, in collaboration with the Gender-Responsive and Inclusive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Thabiri) Project, hosted an awareness meeting in Jenin. The event aimed to promote opportunities for technical education at the college, with a focus on empowering girls, particularly those with disabilities, to pursue technical specializations. The Thabiri project, implemented by the Lutheran World Federation and the Canadian Lutheran World Relief, is funded by the Government of Canada.

Held at the Jenin Governorate building, the meeting saw the participation of Mr. Kamal Abu Rub, Deputy Governor of Jenin, alongside representatives from local women’s organizations in both the public and private sectors. Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology was represented by Mr. Mohammed Joudallah from the Public Relations Department and Mr. Abdul Qader Al-Sakhlah, with Mr. Anan Marrar representing the Thabari project.

The meeting began with Mr. Marrar outlining the Thabiri project's commitment to advancing gender equality in education, in alignment with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality). He emphasized the project’s dedication to supporting girls with disabilities by offering scholarships and inclusive pathways to technical and vocational education.

Mr. Joudallah followed with an overview of the programs available at Hisham Hijjawi College of Technology, highlighting its diverse range of two-year diploma programs, one-year vocational courses, and short-term specialized courses. He also detailed the full and partial scholarships made available through the Thabiri project, which aim to break down financial barriers for girls with disabilities, allowing them to access technical training in innovative fields such as modern woodworking technology, graphic design, mobile device maintenance, and smart home control systems.

A lively discussion followed, with participants from women’s organizations sharing insights and posing questions about expanding the project's reach. The conversation focused on increasing the range of specializations available to girls and broadening the scope of the initiative to benefit a larger group of young women.

This initiative reflects Hisham Hijjawi College’s ongoing commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable educational environment, in line with global efforts to support sustainable development and equal opportunities for all.
